Automation trigger from "use" a template & ability to use date (and future dates) in template titles/tasks
in progress

We've been using Taskade for task management in our brewery. We use templates for all our SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). I've recently been looking at automation to take care of some of the tedious work of scheduling tasks.
For example, we have a "Brew Steps" template. When I use it, I rename it to "Brew Steps <batch> <date>" (like Brew Steps IPA-001 11/23/2024" and then immediately use the "Yeast Harvest <batch> <date>" and the "Dry Hop <batch> <date>" where the yeast harvest is 7 days after the brew and the dry hop 8 days after the brew.
We also have a "Weekly Tasks <date>" project that we use as a kanban/whiteboard. I put a task "Yeast Harvest IPA-001" into the "Wednesday" block and then my assistants can see what daily tasks they need to complete.
I think the trigger for using the template is pretty straightforward. I'm not so sure where the "input" for the brew date (and subsequent dates) would be. It could be just based on the day I use the template as I usually do it the day before the brew, but that seems a little hacky.
It could be the automation would throw up a dialogue to input the date, but that seems like it would be a major amount of work. Another possibility is to be able to trigger on setting the "Due Date" on a project that matches a regex (like "Brew Steps*").
Thanks for considering the request. We love the software. It's saved us tons of time and reams of paper.

Your brewery SOP workflow is a great example of exactly the kind of real operational use Taskade is built for — and you've identified two genuinely useful gaps.
On the date variable side, good news: v5.200.0 shipped "due date variable support in Task automation triggers," and v5.149.0 added support for custom date fields in Add Task. So you can now use dynamic dates in task creation via automations. Using dates directly in project/task titles (like "Brew Steps IPA-001 11/23/2024") via a variable substitution is more limited still, but getting closer.
For the "trigger when a template is used" piece — we have a "Create project with template" automation action (shipped in v5.21.0), which can be triggered from a form submission or other event. The reverse (detecting when someone manually uses a template as a trigger) isn't available yet.
Combining a Taskade form submission with a "Create project from template" action is probably the cleanest workaround for your brewing workflow right now. Happy to help sketch that out if useful!

Hey there! It seems like you want to set a Task's due date relative to another task's due date. Did I get that right?
jwright23
yes. And the ability to trigger the use of a template from another use of a template.
