More Keyboard Shortcuts (for Changing Item Type and Copying Link to Item)
planned

I lose a lot of time by hitting the
CTRL+'
command and then using my mouse
to navigate the menu to switch from paragraph mode and back into bullet mode.I also really like linking / not duplicating data so that people always have one source of truth and references back to that source. However, doing backlinks, again, requires me to use the mouse, which is slow and often times I end up copying the link for the wrong item.
More keyboard shortcuts to address these would be great. (These could even be contextual menu shortcuts: e.g. if I press
CTRL+'
to bring up the menu, I can then press C
to copy a link to the item, or S
to change the style of the item. Something like that.)Log In

Totally feel this — reaching for the mouse just to switch between paragraph and bullet mode is a real flow-breaker, especially mid-thought. A dedicated shortcut for item type switching would be a huge win for keyboard-first users.
We've shipped several keyboard shortcut improvements recently: v5.42 added multi-select duplicate via keyboard, v5.157 added a sidebar panel toggle shortcut, and v6.101 fixed copy shortcut conflicts and updated default tab behavior. But a specific shortcut for toggling between paragraph/bullet/heading modes — without touching the menu — isn't live yet.
For linking and single source of truth, you can already use @mentions and project references to avoid duplication. And with Taskade Genesis, AI agents can restructure content between formats for you. That said, the keyboard shortcut gap for item type switching is real and worth implementing properly. Your detailed use case here makes a compelling case — thanks for writing it up so clearly!

Hi there, could you please elaborate more on this request? the formatting menu already support navigation by keyboard without the use of a mouse. Are you referral to instead of using the keyboard you only want to use a single letter within that menu to access the feature? Similar to the Cmd + / menu?

ryantaskade Thank you for the follow-up! I actually didn't realize that the menu could be navigated with arrow keys, but unfortunately using the arrow keys is even slower for me than moving to the mouse.
I'm a programmer so I'm very used to keeping my hands just on the keyboard in typing position, so moving my hands away to use the mouse or arrow keys seems slow to me.
The solution of a single letter within that menu to access the feature sounds like exactly what I want.
